Maxx Dry Premium Lager – it’s cheap + Long Reef hail

There is a beer price war on in Sydney right now. In fact Sydney beer drinkers have never had it so good. There’s plenty of choice of really decent beers, with the constant introduction of new varieties. But also, if you just want to get pissed there is no shortage of specials on right now. The major bottle-shop chains are not only cutting the price on brands like Becks, Corona and Heinekin, but they are also introducing their own labels.

Maxx Blonde Premium Lager has been around for some time, with a very naff web-site. Only very recently, it has introduced a green sibling – Maxx Dry Premium Lager. It would be worthwhile to compare the two and see if the only difference is the label. Hard to remember a blander beer. At least it is 5% alcohol – albeit in a 330ml bottle. Available at Coles, and their associated bottlo brands. Best to purchase if you are 3 parts pissed and need something to knock you over the edge where taste is not a pre-requisite.

Of far more interest than a crap beer from a supermarket is the result of the hail storm that hit a select part of the Northern Beaches. My daughter, who was surf boat rowing at Long Reef, captured this photo of the Long Reef headland after the hail dump. Quite incredible. The second photo is of the crew sheltering from the hail – not sure who took the photo. Wild weather in Sydney.
